Immunocine
Revolutionising Cancer Immunotherapy By Reawakening The Immune System

Immunocine

Matthew Halpert, Immunocine | Life Science Review | Cancer Immunotherapies Company Of The Year In EuropeMatthew Halpert, Founder and CEO
Life and death dance within us every moment – billions of cells replicate and perish in an exquisitely choreographed balance that maintains our existence. This perpetual cycle of renewal relies on precise cellular mechanisms and a vigilant immune system to maintain order. But sometimes, this delicate equilibrium falters. A single cell may begin to replicate uncontrollably, evading the body’s internal checkpoints meant to halt such aberrant growth. When these internal safeguards fail, our immune system serves as a critical last line of defence, hunting down and eliminating these rogue cells before they can multiply into a threatening mass. Yet despite these layers of protection, cancer cells sometimes slip through, outmanoeuvring both our cellular control systems and immune defences to establish themselves as growing tumours.

In the initial stages of cancer surveillance, dendritic cells—master regulators of the immune system— detect abnormal proteins on cancer cells and present these antigens to T cells. This presentation activates and directs T cells to seek out and destroy cells bearing these specific markers. However, cancer has a sinister advantage: through rapid mutation and evolution, it can develop mechanisms to evade immune recognition. Some cancer cells may downregulate their identifying surface proteins, while others can actively suppress immune cell function. This creates a state of immunological tolerance, where despite the presence of cancer cells, the immune system becomes blind to the threat, allowing the disease to progress unchecked.

This particular quest for effective cancer immunotherapy began in the research lab of Dr. Matthew Halpert, Ph.D., an academic research scientist focused on understanding the fundamental mechanisms of immune system function. His work centred on dendritic cells – the critical conductors of immune responses that we know can naturally eliminate cancer, yet have consistently failed as therapeutic tools in the clinic. This paradox suggested that something vital was missing in our approach.

Your body already knows what to do with dendritic cells in the lymph nodes. It's been doing it your whole life. What we’re doing is giving the patient's immune system the right tools in the right locations to do the job they were always supposed to do

While many researchers had attempted to harness dendritic cells for cancer treatment, these efforts routinely fell short. The breakthrough came when Dr. Halpert’s research group made a pivotal discovery: the key to unlocking dendritic cells’ potential wasn’t about what signals to provide, but rather how to deliver them. This insight revealed previously unknown pathways critical for proper immune activation, fundamentally changing our understanding of dendritic cell biology.
Although clinical trials are progressing and regulatory approvals will follow in time, Dr. Halpert recognised many cancer patients cannot afford to wait. This led to the founding of Immunocine, created to make this safe, physiological and robust personalised immunotherapy available to patients who need solutions today. By leveraging these newly discovered pathways, the company has developed an approach that finally allows dendritic cells to perform their natural cancer-fighting function in a therapeutic context.

The significance of this physiological approach becomes particularly clear when compared to current leading immunotherapies. Checkpoint inhibitors, while revolutionary, essentially remove the immune system's natural “brakes,” which can trigger severe autoimmune reactions throughout the body without providing any real type of antigenic education. Similarly, CAR-T cell therapy, though innovative, relies on artificial genetic modification of T cells and bypasses the immune system’s natural education process, leading to potential cytokine storms and unexpected side effects without providing the breadth of antigen recognition the immune system typically relies upon. In contrast, Immunocine’s approach works through the body’s inherent immune pathways. Rather than artificially manipulating or overstimulating immune responses, it simply provides dendritic cells with the proper signals in the proper way they need to naturally orchestrate an effective anti-cancer response. This maintains the immune system's sophisticated checks and balances while still mounting a powerful defence against cancer.

Immunocine’s breakthrough approach harnesses this fundamental understanding to create truly personalised immunotherapy. By using the patient’s own cancer cells and dendritic cells, and activating them through these newly discovered physiological pathways, the treatment educates the immune system without artificial stimulation or overactivation. This meticulous process, conducted under rigorous quality control, allows the immune system to recognise and respond to cancer as nature intended.

Upskilling the Immune System

Dr. Halpert and his team have published extensively in respected peer-reviewed journals, including FASEB, Cancer Gene Therapy, Frontiers in Immunology, Oncoimmunology and Science Translational Medicine, to name a few. Their research challenges longstanding misconceptions about dendritic cells, offering new insights into optimal immunity and the critical intracellular pathways these cells require.

At the heart of Immunocine’s innovation is a groundbreaking 'double loading' process. This approach begins by extracting both tumour-associated proteins (antigens) and genetic signatures (RNA) from the patient's cancer, along with their dendritic cells. These components are then combined under precise conditions within an ISO 7-certified cGMP laboratory. The dendritic cells, optimally and physiologically activated through simultaneous ‘insideout’ and ‘outside-in’ pathways, are reintroduced into the patient’s lymph nodes nearest to the cancer sites using ultrasound-guided delivery for maximum therapeutic impact.

“Your body already knows what to do with dendritic cells in the lymph nodes. It's been doing it your whole life,” explains Halpert. “What we’re doing is giving the patient’s immune system the right tools in the right locations to do the job they were always supposed to do.”

The results of this patented process have been remarkable, with a 92 percent objective response rate – meaning the vast majority of patients experience successful immune system reprogramming to fight their cancer. Once activated, these dendritic cells effectively mobilise the body's natural defences against cancer cells.

As a physiological approach, side effects are generally milder than traditional cancer treatments, typically manifesting as normal immune responses such as fever, swollen lymph nodes, headache and temporary fluid accumulation. The intensity varies based on factors like tumour burden and location.

Halpert notes that while this immune activation can be effective as a standalone treatment, it can also complement traditional therapies. “For some patients, utilising more aggressive modalities may be necessary to slow down the cancer so that the immune system can have a chance to do its job. But as an immunologist, it's hard for me to ever suggest neglecting your immune system in this fight for life.”

The therapy’s impact is evident in numerous stage IV cancer patients who have achieved stable disease or ‘no evidence of disease’ (NED) status across various cancer types. While Halpert is careful about reducing outcomes to statistics, he notes that “a very statistically significant portion of our patients have drastically exceeded the standard of care expectations and prognosis, including several seemingly cured patients who now join us at various conferences.”

The success stories are compelling. A stage IV bladder cancer patient, initially oxygen-dependent and unable to walk, achieved complete remission within a month of treatment, with scans confirming continued remission six months later. In another case, a stage IV pancreatic cancer patient, initially told to get their affairs in order, showed such remarkable improvement that their oncologist now refers other patients to Immunocine. Perhaps most striking is the case of a patient with refractory melanoma who, after failing conventional treatments and immunotherapies, experienced complete regression of visible tumours and remains cancer-free years later.

Your Partner in the Fight Against Cancer

Immunocine maintains strict acceptance criteria, with only about 20 percent of applicants qualifying for treatment. “We aren’t a walk-in clinic,” Halpert emphasises. “We won't take a patient’s time or money if this isn’t a safe option with a reasonable chance of success. The stakes are too high for that.”

The patient journey begins with an in-depth consultation and comprehensive review of medical records, including recent lab results, scans and oncology reports. An in-house team of medical experts evaluates each case to determine the optimal approach. “There isn't necessarily a one-size-fits-all solution,” explains Halpert, “but our goal is to make cancer a speed bump instead of a brick wall.” Before treatment begins, patients participate in a thorough due diligence call where the team details the entire process and addresses any concerns. The company maintains responsive communication through multiple channels, including social media and their website, typically responding to inquiries within 24 hours.

Beyond the technology itself, Immunocine prioritises the patient experience. Each patient is assigned a dedicated ‘cancer concierge’ who manages all logistics, from appointment scheduling to transportation coordination. The company's website features a comprehensive FAQ section, offering transparent information about treatment details and pricing to help patients make informed decisions.

The company’s commitment extends beyond the initial treatment phase. “We were doing such a great job with patients and earning their trust that they never wanted to leave us, even after their immune system was reprogrammed,” Halpert reflects. This led to the creation of an ongoing support team that continues to engage with patients throughout their journey. It’s an approach that sets Immunocine apart from conventional treatment centres. As Halpert puts it, “This isn't just about medicine or science, but rather about people.”

The convergence of Immunocine’s groundbreaking physiological immunotherapy with its unwavering commitment to individualised patient care represents a new paradigm in cancer treatment. By uniting cutting-edge science with comprehensive support, Immunocine is setting a new standard for what patients should expect from their cancer care journey.
